Richifield Renegade Runs strong 4th-Race Results for New York Thoroughbred Bush Grown

While I haven't spoken with Peggy Sprague of Covertdale Farm yet, my impressions during the day were that Richie would run strong. According to the Brisnet report below, Richie broke late from the starting gate but then went on strong to rally less then a horse length behind the winning group.

Today is the second time he has performed less then perfect from the gate. Last year, he seemed to have fewer reasons to misfire.

Last Friday's race, Richie's first start in Finger Lakes this year along with his return to daylight NY racing, resulted in a poor break from the gate. He was reportedly whapped in the head then by the gate crew for some misbehavior.

Race horses are trained, they do not run like cars with drivers where the science of the vehicle is easier to predict.

Like all working race horses, Ritchie is starting to show some wear in his joints.

Having changed trainers three times in less then a year, the opinions on his performance and viability do vary.
